Former All Blacks winger Julian Savea has responded to Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal’s comments that he has cancelled the New Zealander’s contract following a string of poor performances.

The comments came after another below par showing from the 28-year-old as Toulon slumped to their 10th league defeat of the campaign, with the four-time Top 14 champions languishing in 11th spot.

“I’m going to ask for a DNA test. I’ve told him he’s been released and he’s not welcome at Toulon. He’s got a year left on his contract, he can do what he wants.” Boudjellal told RMC Sport.

“If I were him, I would apologise and I would go home.” 

But Savea has come out defiantly on Twitter, brushing off Boudjellal’s comments and insisting he is still contracted. Savea says he will continue to train whether he is “welcomed or not”.
