Munster faced one of their toughest battles of the season last night, overcoming a very physical Exeter Chiefs side 9-7 in Thomond Park thanks to the boot of Joey Carbery.

The game was placed almost at Test match intensity at times, with the two clubs giving everything they had in a bid to make the last eight of the Heineken Champions Cup.

Just four minutes in we knew what kind of game we were in for when Jonny Hill got in CJ Stander and the Munster maul’s way. The Chiefs lock lost his shirt (and his disciple) as the men in red marched on, securing a crucial penalty for Joey Carbery in front of the posts in the process.

Thomond Park is no easy place to visit. Just ask the countless teams that have failed at the famous Limerick ground in the past. Shirt or no shirt, the Chiefs simply couldn’t stop Munster from marching into a record 18th quarter final.
