Battered.
Scotland fans now know how they made Ireland fans feel on the opening day last year. Gregor Townsend’s men came into this year’s Six Nations absolutely full of confidence, but have been hammered 34-7 by Wales in their opener.
The Scots were touted as favourites in most quarters, with Wales missing a number of key players. But the men in red came out firing, grabbing two tries in the opening quarter.
Gatland’s men were written off before the tournament even started. But a bonus-point win, plus the fact that the huge amount of Scarlets in the team are clearly being allowed play their exciting brand of rugby, has turned a lot of heads.
Rhys Patchell was incredible at ten, while Josh Adams shone on his debut. Steff Evans, Alun Wyn Jones, Aaron Shingler and Leigh Halfpenny were also hugely impressive. Are Wales now challengers? Keep playing like this and they very well bloody could be.
