Hawke’s Bay players Zac Guildford and Ryan Tongia have been hailed as community heroes after halting an alleged shoplifter in Napier on Tuesday.
The players were enjoying lunch with injured team-mate Chris Eaton when they noticed an alleged thief sprinting out of a shop, laden with clothes.
Guildford and Tongia chased after the alleged offender, with a eye-witness telling OneNews they managed to catch the alleged offender “200 metres down the street”.
“Ryan grabbed the offender and walked him back to some security guards and the police took over,” the witness said.
