We’ve no issue putting our hands up when we’re wrong.
The transfer rumour business is a tricky one, and when one of the guys in the office said he heard some rumblings in Leicester, we made the silly mistake of trusting a source we damn well shouldn’t have. The rumour was that the Tigers were supposedly set to offload Matt Toomua and Manu Tuilagi at the end of the season in order to free up some salary cap and bring in George Ford and Ben Te’o.
Considering Tuilagi’s constant troubles with injury and the fact that George Ford to Leicester is one of the worst kept secrets in rugby- it all made sense. Add in the fact that Ben Te’o’s stock is way up after his Six Nations performances and he’s openly admitted he’s not quite happy with Worcester- it began to add up quite nicely.
Toomua is currently out of action, and not expected back until around April after a serious knee injury, so they prospect of Leicester cutting their losses all made sense. Turns out we couldn’t have been more wrong, with Toomua brilliantly commenting on our Facebook post.
The Wallaby tagged his missus and jokingly said “Time to search for a new home…?!”
Moral of the story- don’t trust everything you read on the internet. We can’t always get it right! Matt Toomua, we owe you an apology!
