Emotional.
Naturally ahead of Saturday’s clash between the All Blacks and Ireland a lot of attention was set on New Zealand-born centre Bundee Aki.
Members of the NZ media attacked him, calling his recruitment by Ireland “ethically” questionable and that capture players like Aki are “harming” the integrity of world rugby.
“Aki makes for a particularly interesting case study as he owes his presence in Ireland’s midfield to a rather cold, calculating and ethically questionable recruitment policy by the Irish Rugby Football Union.” Gregor Paul wrote in the NZ Herald
All Blacks assistant Ian Foster also had a slight dig at Aki…
“You have moulded him into an Irish man, he looks like an Irish man now doesn’t he?” Foster said.
But Aki wasn’t fazed, and put in an excellent performance on Saturday night, letting his rugby do the talking. The raw emotion in his face following the win says it all…
Ah, what a huge night for Bundee. This is brilliant. #irevnzl pic.twitter.com/S4wmwaC66A
