This is nasty.
There has been plenty of debate in recent times about players leading with their forearm and how it needs to be policed, but we’ve never seen anything quite like this.
Montpellier lock Konstantin Mikautadze saw red over the weekend for leading with his elbow in their clash with Bordeaux, in a brutal act that will no doubt result in further sanction.
The Georgian international was only on the pitch a little over 15 minutes, after coming on as a second-half substitute, when he charged into Matthieu Jalibert, thundering into the side of his head.
Montpellier ended up picking up their first loss of the season, but will have more to deal with as Mikautadze is likely to be cited for the incident.
