Warren Gatland has reached an agreement with England over a revised, improved training visit at their Surrey HQ next Thursday.
The Lions boss had originally been invited to spend the day observing Eddie Jones’ squad in Oxford as they begin preparations for their crucial Six Nations clash with rivals Scotland. This however would have been an open session, in a non-Test week, with Gatland requesting to change the arrangements.
As a result, Gatland will now link up with England in eight days’ time to watch Eddie Jones’ players go through their paces 48 hours before facing the Scots.
This revised access will give the Kiwi a more meaningful insight into the training routine of his English candidates for Lions squad places. As well as viewing an intense, closed session, it is thought that he will also be able to hold talks with England coaches and players, as required.
Gatland visited Ireland in Maynooth during the first week of the RBS Six Nations, he will spend time with Wales on Wednesday and he will visit Scotland next Tuesday.
