Wales and Exeter prop Tomas Francis has been banned for eight weeks after appearing to touch the eye area of England’s Dan Cole and will miss the Six Nations finale with Italy.
The 23-year-old committed the offence in Wales’ 25-21 defeat and faced a disciplinary committee hearing. He will now miss the rest of his club’s regular season games, although he would be eligible to play in the Champions Cup final if the Chiefs make it.
A Six Nations statement read: ‘The disciplinary committee, chaired by Pat Barriscale (Ireland) along with Jean-Philippe Lachaume (France) and George Spotswood (Ireland), having considered all of the evidence, including various clips of TV footage, and listened to representations by, and on behalf, of Mr Francis, found that he had recklessly made contact with the eye or eye area of an opponent, which had been worthy of a red card.”
Francis can return on Monday, 9 May.
