Two More Wales & Lions Stars May Be Returning To Wales To Ply Their Craft

The news broke last night that the Llanelli Scarlets have signed Wales and Lions centre Jonathan Davies, after he spent two years with Clermont.

His return is a major boost to Welsh rugby, as many of the stars ply their trade in England and France. However, there is a real belief that they will be tempted back to the Welsh regions, and the cash generated from Wales’ World Cup run, as well as from renting out the Millennium Stadium for the tournament, will be invested into bringing some of the top talents back to the Pro 12 sides.

A report by Wales Online today suggests that the Scarlets may go after more international standard talent, with the contracts of George North and Leigh Halfpenny ending after this season with Northampton Saints and Toulon respectively.

Such acquisitions could leave the Welsh outfit with a star-studded backline, with North, Davies and Halfpenny joining the likes of Liam and Scott Williams, Gareth Davies and DTH Van Der Merwe.

This would be an important move for Welsh rugby as a whole, who have fallen far behind the Irish provinces in recent years, and with an upturn in fortunes for Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh, it is important that the Welsh regions have the best teams available in the Pro 12 and the European Champions Cup.
