You can’t bring everyone.
Lock Joe Launchbury and centre Jonathan Joseph are in serious danger of missing out on selection when Warren Gatland names his British & Irish Lions squad on Wednesday according to the BBC. England captain Dylan Hartley’s chances are rated as 50/50 while Ben Te’o and Kyle Sinckler are set to be on the plane to New Zealand, as reported earlier in the week.
Launchbury was nominated for Six Nations Player of the Year last month, and alongside second-row partner Courtney Lawes, was one of England’s standout players. Jonathan Joseph had a mixed Six Nations, excelling against Scotland, but disappearing against Ireland.
If you ask us, Launchbury missing out would be very harsh on the Wasps man, but as for Joseph, we reckon the Bath centre is hugely overrated and just doesn’t cut the mustard against the elite national sides, despite many pundits suggesting he should be the Test centre.
The good news for Irish fans is Gatland is said to be a big fan of Donnacha Ryan and could end up bringing the Munster lock along with Irish teammate Iain Henderson. James Haskell, Chris Robshaw and George Ford are all set to miss out.
