It’s been quite the season for England and Harlequins playmaker, Marcus Smith – and things just got even better for the talented youngster after he was called up to the British and Irish Lions squad.
With Scotland international Finn Russell set to miss out on the next three tour games nursing an Achilles injury, Gatland has turned to Smith as cover, with the 22-year-old now set to board the next available flight to South Africa.
Incredibly, Smith was playing in Twickenham when the news broke and only discovered he was called up after he was replaced in the final minutes of England vs Canada.
