Sean O’Brien is not in Leinster’s squad for tomorrow’s crucial Champions Cup clash.
Ireland back-row Sean O’Brien was notably left out of Leinster’s Champions Cup squad for their clash with Montpellier tomorrow, leaving many people concerned about his fitness heading into the Six Nations.
The Tullow native has endured a torrid time in recent seasons with a number of injuries, but seemed to finally have overcome them in recent weeks after making a successful return for both club and country.
This latest setback however has many people worried, but Leo Cullen has moved to alleviate all concerns. O’Brien has a tight calf, and his absence is merely a precaution as Leinster simply don’t want to take any risks with the bruising back-row.
“Sean just had a bit of tightness in his calf this week so we didn’t take any risks with him. He should be available next week,”
Cullen was also asked if the decision to keep Rob Kearney on the bench was a fitness issue or a reward for the two youngsters’ performances.
“A little bit of both, we just wanted to see how he came through the week a little bit.
Just to give us that certainty earlier in the week we went with that combination. They’ve all been going well so I thought they deserved the start as well.”
A sigh of relief for Ireland fans.
