David Pocock has been linked with huge move in recent days to Wasps in a bumper deal that would make him the highest paid player in the world. Who are current highest paid? Lets take a look.
David Pocock, Wasps: €1.8m+ (if it happens)
Wasps have made an audacious attempt to bring David Pocock to the Premiership in a potential deal that would make the Australia flanker the highest-paid rugby player in the world. The Premiership club have already put feelers out to his representatives and have indicated that they would offer him a package in excess of the £1.4 million that Racing 92 are paying Dan Carter.
Ayumu Goromaru, Queensland: €1.8m
The Queensland Reds and Japan full-back has reportedly overtaken Dan Carter as the highest-paid player in the world. French media last week named him as the world’s best-paid player, mostly thanks to commerical deals in Japan, and French TV station Canal Plus have linked him with Toulon next season.
Dan Carter, Racing 92: €1.8m
The legendary New Zealand fly-half is currently the world’s highest-paid player after joining big-spending Racing 92 following the Rugby World Cup. He became rugby’s first ‘million pound player’ in doing so.
Matt Giteau, Toulon: €1.2m
Following interest from Racing 92, Giteau held all the aces and signed a lucrative new contract worth £900,000-a-season at Toulon in September 2014.
Leigh Halfpenny, Toulon: €770,000
Halfpenny left Cardiff Blues in January 2014 after agreeing a record deal with Toulon that saw him become the highest-paid Welshman of all time.

Ma’a Nonu, Toulon: €770,000
The World Cup-winning All Black retired from international rugby after the RWC and was unveiled as one of Toulon’s big-money signings.
Jonathan Sexton, Leinster: £650,000
The out-half is the highest earner on the IRFU’s payroll. His big-money move to Racing 92 didn’t work out, but his return to Leinster hasn’t seen his wages diminish.
Charles Piutau, Ulster: €650,000
The All Blacks were furious when Piutau decided to play abroad and although he is currently playing for Wasps this season, before he heads to Ulster next term on a two-year deal worth €1.3m.
Bryan Habana, Toulon: €600,000
Following spells at Golden Lions, Blue Bulls, Western Province and Stormers, the powerful wing settled at Toulon where he earns just shy of half a million quid a year.

Manu Tuilagi, Leicester: €575,000
The England centre signed a new three-season contract with the Tigers to become the highest-paid player in English rugby following interest from Worcester, Wasps, Saracens and lots of French clubs.
