Wasps have made an audacious attempt to bring David Pocock to the Premiership in a potential deal that would make the Australia flanker the highest-paid rugby player in the world. The Premiership club have already put feelers out to his representatives and have indicated that they would offer him a package in excess of the £1.4 million that Racing 92 are paying Dan Carter.

Ayumu Goromaru, Queensland: €1.8m

The Queensland Reds and Japan full-back has reportedly overtaken Dan Carter as the highest-paid player in the world. French media last week named him as the world’s best-paid player, mostly thanks to commerical deals in Japan, and French TV station Canal Plus have linked him with Toulon next season.
