Steve Hansen Says France’s Complaints About Officiating Are ‘Pointless

Pointless.

All Blacks boss Steve Hansen has called France’s complaints about officiating in their two Tests so far as ‘pointless’ ahead of the final game in their series tomorrow.

Les Blues are not happy after Remy Grosso suffered a double skull fracture in the first Test as a result of a dangerous hit from All Blacks Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Sam Cane, and fullback Benjamin Fall was red-carded in the 2nd Test for a controversial challenge on Beauden Barrett that has since been rescinded.

New Zealand have been branded as ‘cheats’ by flanker Kevin Gourdon, with Grosso also stating France would have been punished for the hit the All Blacks got away with in him.

“[Tu’ungafasi] sees me coming, he sees that I am down and he still makes the gesture to move his shoulder,” Grosso said.

“If the referee whistles foul, Cane must at least take a yellow, and their [prop] a red.

“If we do the same thing, we French get punished.”

Hansen has rubbished their claims, stating the All Blacks don’t always get their way either. He pointed to last summer’s Lions series and the controversial penalty reversal decision that ultimately cost them the game and series.

“You make the comment the French feel they’ve been hard done by. You can talk about any series and say that. That’s the way rugby is,” he said.

“Go back 12 months and I can sit here and squeal about that too, but it’s pointless isn’t it?”
