South Africa have been dealt multiple major injury blows following their second Test defeat to Ireland in Durban last weekend.
They will start their Rugby Championship campaign next month without four of their star players, with Franco Mostert, Cheslin Kolbe, Pieter-Steph du Toit, and Malcolm Marx all picking up injuries.
Veteran lock Franco Mostert suffered a leg fracture and won’t make the trip to Australia for their two Tests against the Wallabies. He’s expected to be out for six weeks.
Pieter-Steph du Toit will also miss the first Rugby Championship Test in Brisbane on August 10 with the flanker expected to be out for “four to six weeks.”
Cheslin Kolbe also suffered a lower leg injury is also a doubt, while hooker Malcolm Marx picked up a tibia fracture when he was crock-rolled in the loss to Ireland, an incident that resulted in a yellow card for Caelan Doris.
