Sonny Bill Williams return to rugby is still a way off.
All Blacks and Auckland centre Sonny Bill Williams will miss the start of the Super Rugby season, revealing he isn’t likely to debut for the Blues for at least the first six weeks of competition.
Williams suffered a serious Achilles injury while playing for the New Zealand Sevens side at the Rio Olympics.
Currently working through his rehabilitation in Auckland, Williams told New Zealand’s TVNZ there was no exact timeframe for his return.
“[I] haven’t really put a date on it; I think maybe six weeks into Super Rugby hopefully,” he said. “[I’m] aiming to be back by then.
The All Blacks star however, has found a silver lining in his extended playing absence.
“Things are going really well,” he said.
“It’s been an awesome experience to be honest, being able to spend some time at home with my family; just connect, especially with my eldest daughter, she’s my little shadow now…so wherever I go around the house she has to follow.”
The Blues open the Super Rugby season in Melbourne against the Rebels on February 23.
