Will Johnny Sexton ever catch him?
Leinster and Ireland playmaker Johnny Sexton reached a career milestone this past weekend when he converted Jack Conan’s try in the 55th minute of his side’s demolition of French side Montpellier.
Sexton is now on 501 career points in Europe from 55 games, moving him up to eight place in the all-time rankings overall. Who tops the list you ask? Only a certain former Ireland teammate, and Munster rival, in the form of Ronan O’Gara.
The Corkman managed a whopping 1,385 points in 110 matches for Munster. It’s a tally that might never be beaten, and with Sexton turning 32 later this year, his chances of catching his former coach are slim.
At least Sexton can always say he won three European titles, while ROG only managed the two. Sexton could yet even add another to his accolades this year with the kind of form Leinster are currently on.
