Saracens and England number 8 Billy Vunipola is set for a shock move away from rugby.
The 24-year-old, who has been in superb form for club and country over the past 18 months, revealed he is eager to test himself in another sport- American football.
Speaking to The Times ahead of England’s November 12 opener against South Africa, Vunipola said:
“I’m at Saracens until 2019, pushing myself with regards to international honours and seeing if I can represent England. It is hard as a rugby player to talk about stuff like that (future career),”
“I really, really would like to go away and play something else. I really want to try out NFL, just push myself and give it a crack. If it doesn’t happen then go home.
“It is a long time until then and my mum will probably read this and tell me to shut up and concentrate on one thing.”
While Vunipola is keen to give American Football a try in the future, he admitted that he was not a fan of watching the NFL on television.
“No. I actually don’t enjoy watching it but I look at it, and think, ‘If he can do it, I can do it’,”
“At the moment my focus is fully on rugby but it is something I dream about. It interests me. Their pitch is so small. That is why they are so particular about movements and where their feet are.”
Do you think Billy Vunipola has what it takes to make it in the NFL?
