Sam Warburton Picks His British & Irish Lions XV To Take On The Springboks

Test match.

Two-time British and Irish Lions captain, Sam Warburton, has had a go at picking his Lions XV to take on the Springboks in the 1st Test next Saturday.

The former Wales flanker led the Lions on their last two tours to Australia and New Zealand, helping secure a series win down under before drawing the series with the All Blacks back in 2017.

Competition is incredible this time around, with Warburton struggling like the rest of us with a lot of his calls. The biggest omission in his squad is perhaps Robbie Henshaw, who many feel should start, despite his lack of game time.

There’s also no room in his squad for the likes of Stuart Hogg, Owen Farrell, and Iain Henderson, with Warburton starting original tour captain Alun Wyn Jones, following his miraculous return this week.

Warburton’s Lions XV:

15. Liam Williams
14. Anthony Watson
13. Elliot Daly
12. Bundee Aki
11. Josh Adams
10. Dan Biggar
9. Conor Murray

1. Mako Vunipola
2. Luke Cowan-Dickie
3. Tadhg Furlong
5. Maro Itoje
6. Alun Wyn Jones (c)
7. Tadhg Beirne
7. Tom Curry
8. Taulupe Faletau.
