Respect.
Sam Warburton has revealed he never got a chance to swap jerseys with All Blacks legend Richie McCaw – because the former Crusaders man never asked him.
Warburton says he has swapped with legends such as Thierry Dusatoir, David Pocock, Francois Louw and Martyn Williams, but never swapped with McCaw because he didn’t want to be seeing showing him too much “respect”.
Speaking on BBC’s Scrum V podcast, the former Cardiff, Wales and Lions captain detailed his personal policy of “never asking anyone for their jersey”.
“I don’t want to give them, or give them the perception, that I’m giving them respect,” he said.
“If they want my shirt, they can ask me, but I’m not asking them for a shirt.
“I want to be this young guy who doesn’t care, who just wants to play and who just wants to knock his head off.”
