Rugby League star Jarrod Mullen has been suspended by the Australian NRL’s anti-doping policy for testing positive for steroid use.
The Newcastle Knights star took a test on the 29th of November that returned positive for the banned anabolic steroid drostanolone, which is prohibited under ruled by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The playmaker is now banned until further notice, but has the option of having his B sample analysed.
Knights CEO Matt Gidley is understandable hugely disappointed.
“The club is obviously extremely disappointed,” Gidley said.
“The club has a strict governance programme, the players are regularly educated and fully aware of the consequences of going outside our governance guidelines.
“From here, there is a formal process we need to follow under the guidelines.
“We need to respect the process and in the interim the club will continue to monitor Jarrod’s welfare.”
Mullen is one of Newcastle’s star men and has played 211 matches since making his debut for the NRL side back in 2005. He represented the New South Wales in State of Origin back in 2007.
