Well said.
The fair weather fans, journalists and pundits have been out in full force over the last couple of days, letting rip into Ireland and their disastrous Guinness Six Nations campaign.
And while it’s true it’s been a pretty shitty Championship for the men in green – you don’t become a bad team overnight. After an incredible 2018, Ireland simply couldn’t keep up their impressive run of form. And it’s as simple as that really.
But it’s not the end of the world. There’s plenty of rugby to be played between now and the Rugby World Cup, including a domestic and European campaign at club level, as well as a series of warm-up games starting in August. Ireland’s World Cup dreams are far from over.
And aside from all that – as much as we all love and adore the game, at the end of that day that’s all it is – a game. Former Ireland and Munster outhalf Ronan O’Gara couldn’t have put it better in this excellent Tweet.
Congrats to @WelshRugbyUnion. Brilliant throughout the comp. Heads up to @IrishRugby . Take it on the chin. Go home and hug your kids and if you don’t have kids , hug your parents. More important things in life. The game of Rugby is great for spreading the .
