Aspirations.
Former Munster and Ireland out-half Ronan O’Gara has carved out quite the coaching career for himself since hanging up his boots.
The 47-year-old has won silverware at every club he has been with, winning a Top 14 at Racing 92, multiple Super Rugby titles with the Crusaders, as well as two European Cups with his current club La Rochelle.
The Irishman is one of the hottest coaches in rugby and is constantly linked with roles but it appears he now knows exactly what he wants if he is to leave La Rochelle, of whom he is contracted with until 2027.
Speaking to the media ahead of La Rochelle’s Champions Cup Round 2 fixture with Bristol Bears this weekend, O’Gara dismissed taking the Wales job if it becomes available but made it clear he would like to coach Ireland, England, or France.
“I haven’t thought about that to be honest with you,” O’Gara said when asked whether he would be interested in the Wales job.
“Without lacking humility, I’d prefer Ireland, England or France.
“You have got to have those ambitions, I think, because you want to be the best you can be.
“There are Test jobs I would bite people’s hands off for. That usually works itself out if you are good enough at your club.”
