The Johan Goosen saga continues…
Racing 92’s Johan Goosen was reportedly included in the Cheetah’s off-season squad list.
The playmaker ‘retired’ from rugby back in December, in a surprise move that sent shockwaves around the rugby world. Goosen reportedly left the game to accept a job as a commercial director at a saddle-horse stud farm in Bloemfontein, but it appears that may not be the case.
According to SA Rugby Magazine, a Cheetah’s outhalf came across Goosen’s name on a squad list pinned to a changing room wall during the off-season.
Cheetahs coach Franco Smith, denied the reports saying:
“I have not thought it possible, because to my knowledge, Johan is contracted in France until 2020. We have not made him an offer or invited him back.”
However, Goosen was part of the squad list at some stage during pre-season, according to information obtained by SA Rugby Magazine veteran rugby writer Gavin Rich, before being removed.
We definitely haven’t heard the last of this one…
