Ireland have revealed that Paul O’Connell will indeed be staying on with the Irish rugby team.
The Ireland team captain will rejoin his country’s World Cup squad before the Argentina game this weekend.
Joe Schmidt is set to welcome back O’Connell on Friday or Saturday after his 13-year international playing career came to an unfitting end in the first half against France.
But, despite having to withdraw from the squad, O’Connell was with his team mates and contributing to meetings during the week and he will join up with them once more as soon as he’s had an operation on his torn hamstring.
Ireland team manager, Mick Kearney confirmed today (Thursday) that they were hoping to have Paulie back at the weekend.
“Paul came back into camp on Monday, was in good form and contributing at the meetings,” Kearney said.
“He left this morning for London, where he’s having an operation today, and we’re hopeful that he’ll rejoin us in Cardiff either Friday evening or Saturday.”
