This could be an interesting one.
Former Munster, Ireland and Lions captain Paul O’Connell could be set for a coaching role, with former Scotland lock Jim Hamilton revealing that Leicester Tigers are interested in bringing him to England.
Hamilton says he is ‘best mates’ with Tigers’ forward coach Brett Deacon, and that the Premiership side have sounded out O’Connell about a possible role to help sort out their problems in the lineout.
Speaking on The Rugby Pod, Hamilton said:
“Leicester have been talking to Paul O’Connell, as a forwards coach.” Hamilton said.
“This is what I’ve heard, and again it’s the rumour mill. My sources are good, but not great and no one from Leicester has told me this.”
Could we see O’Connell follow a similar route to Ronan O’Gara and ply his trade in a different country for a few seasons, before ultimately ending up back at Munster in some capacity? Stranger things have happened.
Apparently Leicester were in talks to bring in another former Ireland international in Guy Easterby, but he ultimately turned them down.
