Former British and Irish Lions XV captain Paul O’Connell has had a go at picking his ‘Lions XV of the Week’ following round one of the Autumn Nations Cup.
O’Connell has gone with no fewer than five Irish players following their impressive 32-9 win over Wales on Friday night with debutant James Lowe, Robbie Henshaw, Andrew Porter, Peter O’Mahony and Caelan Doris all included.
Five English players are also selected following their 40-0 demolition of Georgia with Ben Youngs, Ellis Genge, hat-trick hero Jamie George, Charlie Ewels and Maro Itoje all making the cut.
Scotland made life tough for themselves at times on Saturday afternoon, eventually winning 28-17 despite trailing for much of the game. Four players make O’Connell’s cut regardless with Stuart Hogg, Chris Harris, Duhan van der Merwe and Duncan Weir all making his selection.
Justin Tipuric is the sole Welsh player in the squad.
