Would you be able to say no to an offer like this?
Pat Lam’s new salary is set to dwarf his pay packet at Connacht. The former Samoan international made the announcement yesterday that he would be leaving the western province at the end of the season, after a hugely successful spell with the province.
Lam brought Connacht their first bit of silverware in history last year with their miraculous PRO12 victory, but the Irish province must now plan ahead without him as he sets sail for England at the end of the season.
The timing of the announcement has been questioned by many, with the Champions Cup kicking back into gear this weekend, but it’s been revealed that Lam had a clause in his contract that stated he must give six months notice, should he decide to leave.
Lam will once again take over a side, struggling and in need of a restructuring but this time he will be paid rather handsomely for his services. His new deal with Bristol is set to earn him a whopping €750,000 per season.
To put it quite simply, it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
