Michael Cheika might be about to lose another one of his Wallabies to the riches to France.
As things stand there are eight Wallabies contracted to French clubs and another handful based in England. While some of those players are still able to play for Australia thanks to the Giteau Law, others have put their international careers on hold.
The likes of Mitchell, Ashley-Cooper and Giteau may still be eligible due to having the 60+ caps required for the law, but Cheika has lost the likes of Matt Toomua and Joe Tomane in recent months due to the lures of European riches.
Dane Haylett-Petty made his test debut for the Wallabies against England last June and hasn’t looked back since. He’s now widely regarded as one of the best wingers in world rugby right now, but his form it seems hasn’t gone unnoticed and could end up being the latest casualty.
The 27 year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2017 Super Rugby season, and Bordeaux Begles, according to Midi Olympique, have offered the winger a contract. He’s also no stranger to French rugby having played for Biarritz before deciding to return to Australia in 2014.
While it would be strange for him to return to France, so soon after finally getting international recognition, we all know- money talks.
