Bath announced Faletau will be their player next season in a statement, but it appears to have taken the Dragons by surprise.
Newport Gwent Dragons have labelled news of Taulupe Faletau’s move to Bath ‘extremely disappointing’ and said they believed the Welsh Rugby Union was negotiating a national dual contract with the player.
Faletau’s transfer was announced, by Bath on Wednesday morning after there had been speculation he might stay at Rodney Parade.
The Wales No.8 was quoted in a press release by the English club as saying Bath suited his style of play as an end to the long-running saga finally arrived.
But now the Dragons have issued a short statement suggesting they believed they had a chance of keeping Faletau and that they believed he was in discussions with the WRU over a new dual contract.
The Newport Gwent Dragons have today received confirmation from the player’s agent that Taulupe Faletau is to sign for Bath RFC from next season.
This comes as extremely disappointing news for the Club given our understanding that a National Dual Contract was being negotiated with the Welsh Rugby Union.
Well this is awkward…
