Munster have confirmed that Conor Murray is currently suffering from a neck problem, but there is still no timeline for his recovery.
The Ireland international last played against Australia back in June, with Munster forced to bring in All Black scrumhalf Alby Mathewson on a short-term deal as cover.
In a squad update issued today, Munster say Murray is “continuing to follow rehabilitation under the supervision of the medical department”, while stating it is indeed a neck problem he’s suffering from.
Murray suffered with a nerve issue in his neck during the 2016/17 season that saw him miss a number of games including Munster’s Champions Cup semi-final loss to Saracens at the Aviva. It was initially feared he would miss the Lions’ summer tour of New Zealand but he went on to make a full recovery, starring in the series.
There are fears he could be suffering a recurrence of the same problem, but Munster have as of yet – released no further info. But as we said before, while it is frustrating as fans not knowing more – we must respect Murray’s privacy regarding the issue.
