Superstar.
It’s been a difficult season for Munster Rugby all things considered but a monumental victory over Saracens last weekend could light a spark in their season.
The southern province parted ways with their head coach Graham Rowntree back in October and have been ravaged with injury, but despite all this, they sit second in their Champions Cup pool thanks to that win in Thomond Park on Saturday.
They lie 11th in the URC but are just four points off 4th place and have already completed their South Africa tour, with the competition once again proving to be extremely tight this season.
Reports last week suggest they are close to adding some much-needed reinforcements to their front-row ahead of next season in the form of Leinster’s loosehead Michael Milne and hooker Lee Barron.
And they could be set to add to further bolster their pack with the signing of reigning World Rugby Player of the Year Pieter-Steph du Toit, with speculation starting to really heat up in Limerick.
Munster attempted to sign the double World Cup winner several years back but their attempt was blocked by the IRFU, despite the province reportedly agreeing a deal with the flanker that was set to be funded by private investment, similar to the deal that brought Damian de Allende and RG Snyman to the province several years back.
But with Peter O’Mahony set to hang up his boots at the end of the season, the IRFU may be a little more lenient this time. The 32-year-old South African star would be the perfect man to fill the massive void that O’Mahony’s retirement will leave.
