Munster finally get approval for hugely important transfer

Badly needed.

Munster Rugby have enjoyed an excellent start to the 2025/26 season under new head coach Clayton McMillan, with the southern province unbeaten so far this campaign.

But depth continues to be a concern for the southern province, with plenty of rugby still left to play this season.

The front row, in particular, is a real area of concern, especially at tighthead. Oli Jager continues to be injury-prone, Roman Salanoa hasn’t played in two years, and they lost Stephen Archer to retirement last season.

In the past, the IRFU have blocked Munster from bringing in a foreign tighthead, but it appears that has finally changed, with Bernard Jackman reporting that they have been given the go-ahead.

“My understanding is that Munster have been given permission to bring in a tighthead, a foreign tighthead,” Jackman said on The 42’s Rugby Weekly Extra.

“The rumour was they were talking to Michael Ala’alatoa, with a view to getting him over for the rest of the season on loan, but I don’t think that’s gonna happen.

“They apparently have permission to bring someone in if they can find somebody.
