Leinster and Ireland star looks set to miss Lions tour following shoulder injury

British and Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell looks set for a late selection headache ahead of his squad announcement later this week.
Ireland and Leinster captain Caelan Doris has emerged as a serious doubt for the tour after picking up a shoulder injury in Saturday’s defeat to Northampton Saints in the semi-final of the Champions Cup.
In an injury update ahead of this weekend’s URC clash with Zebre Parma, Leinster have revealed that Doris needs to undergo a procedure, with all signs pointing to him being unavailable to tour Australia this summer.
“There is good news in the return of James Ryan and Rob Russell to full fitness and both will take part in training this week,” a Leinster update reads.
“However, definitely ruled out of the game is captain Caelan Doris who will undergo a procedure this week on a shoulder injury picked up in Saturday’s game against Northampton Saints.
“The full extent of the injury, and implications for the summer, won’t be known until after the procedure.”
