The prospect of the Wales and Lions full-back returning to Welsh rugby has improved significantly with international rugby at the top of his agenda.
Leigh Halfpenny has ruled out a move to Premiership side Wasps with the Wales full-back believed to have been concerned about the strict rules governing international release in English rugby.
While attracted by the progress Wasps are making and the prospect of working with former Cardiff Blues boss Dai Young who has revived the club, Halfpenny wants to be available for all Wales Test matches and training commitments.
Premier Rugby Limited, the organisation that represents top flight English clubs, does not grant release to non-English players for matches – such as the fourth November game – which fall outside of the official World Rugby calendar slots for internationals.
Where is future lies, remains to be seen but it’s looking increasingly likely Halfpenny will return to Wales with one of the regions.
