Toulouse forward Jerome Kaino has been handed a five-week ban for a tackle on Jamie Roberts that has divided opinion across the rugby world.
The former All Black was a shown yellow on the day for a tackle on the Bath centre that resulted in a concussion for the Wales international who failed a HIA on the day following the tackle.
But many feel the tackle was indeed a perfectly legitimate tackle, that just ended unfortunately for Roberts. Kaino himself pleaded not guilty to the offence, but a European disciplinary committee however, have ruled that the challenge warranted a red card.
“On the basis that the incident involved contact to the head, the Committee was obliged under World Rugby regulations to find that the offence was at least at the mid-range of the sanctions and six weeks was selected as the appropriate entry point.” an EPCR statement read.
“In the absence of a guilty plea, but in consideration of the player’s good conduct at the hearing, the Committee decided to reduce the sanction by one week before imposing a five-week suspension.”
What do you think? Does Kaino deserve a five-week ban?
