High praise indeed.
Leinster winger James Lowe was full of praise for a certain teammate after Saturday’s win over Munster. That man? The legendary Isa Nacewa who is set to retire after next Saturday’s PRO12 final.
The game against Munster was Nacewa’s final game for Leinster at the RDS, but he will get one more run out at the Aviva Stadium, with the final set to take place at the home of Irish Rugby.
That is however, if everything goes to plan. Nacewa has been carrying a calf injury since the Racing 92 game, and was forced off at half-time against Munster.
Lowe says Nacewa is “a god amongst men” and says if there’s any player you want to win on Saturday for, it’s him.
“Everyone wants to be Isa, his name gets shouted every time he runs out on to that field. If you want to do it for anyone, you want to do it for him.” Lowe said after the Munster game.
“He’s our culture at the moment, he’s our talisman. I mean, he’s got one leg at the moment and he still trains every week, still turns up. He doesn’t have to play week in, week out but when he does play he’s huge.
“He’s the boss. He’s pretty unlucky not to be an All Black, eh? Leinster is pretty lucky to have had him for so long.
“I thought he retired and came back, coached and then they got two more years out of him so he’s a god amongst men.”
Here’s hoping Nacewa is passed fit so he can get the send-off he deserves.
