Wanted man.
Australia and Melbourne Rebels tighthead prop Taniel Tupou could be heading to Ireland next season, after receiving an offer from Leinster Rugby, according to Australian outlet CODE Sports.
Leo Cullen’s side have reportedly made a sizeable offer to the man known as the ‘Tongan Thor’ to join them after the Super Rugby Pacific season.
The deal on the table is said to be $950k AUD a year, which roughly converts to about €570k a year.
However, it would be a salary decrease for the tighthead who is currently earning $1.2m AUD a year, bu with the Rebels going into voluntary administration before the start of the Super Rugby season, Leinster could be able to offer him a lifeline.
Leinster are currently in the market for a backup tighthead to Tadhg Furlong with Michael Ala’alato set to join Top 14 outfit ASM Clermont Auvergne at the end of the season.
