Ireland and Ulster lock Dan Tuohy in in talks about a potential switch to Premiership side Bristol.

A move to the English strugglers would see him line out for his hometown club having been born in Bristol. The 11-time capped Ireland international has endured a torrid time with injuries in recent seasons.

Ulster assistant coach Allen Clarke has said that Tuohy ‘is in communications with other options and is going through due process at the moment.’ The second-row has spent the last six seasons with the northern province having moved from Exeter in 2009.

Tuohy only returned to first team action in October after ankle ligament damage kept him sidelined for almost a year.

“He has been fantastic for us but has had a frustrating couple of years because of injury,” Clarke said.

“I remember him as a young man arriving and what he has developed into – that experience is precious.

“But if he is to move on, it opens up an avenue for someone else and we’ve got some good young locks in Ulster.”

Tuohy’s last international cap came in the World Cup warm-up against Scotland in August 2015 having made his debut under Declan Kidney in 2010.
