Blocked.
Ulster’s attempts to sign Lions and Springboks outhalf Elton Jantijies have been blocked by the IRFU because he is not an Irish qualified player.
The 27-year-old has played an integral role for the Springboks in recent seasons, having earned 23 caps. He also helped lead the Lions to back-to-back Super Rugby finals.
Ulster are desperately seeking a replacement for Paddy Jackson who has his contract revoked earlier in the season, along with centre Stuart Olding following their much publicised rape trial.
The IRFU have made attempts to move Joey Carbery to Ulster in recent weeks – but with Ulster clearly looking elsewhere, does that mean he has turned down the move?
It could also mean he hasn’t made a decision yet and Ulster were trying to cover themselves But if in the end no Irish-qualified ten wants to move to Ulster, should the IRFU really be blocking them from brining in an overseas one?
