This makes absolutely no sense.
The Ireland women’s rugby team are set to lose three of their key players for this weekend’s crucial clash with France due to a bizarre decision.
Alison Miller, Hannah Tyrrell and 2016 Women’s Player of the Year Sene Naoupu all look set to miss out on a crucial Six Nations championship game at Donnybrook, so they can travel to USA with the sevens team for a tournament in Vegas according to The42.
Director of Women’s and Sevens Rugby Anthony Eddy is due to meet the media on Thursday evening, the same day that Ireland’s match-day squad to play France is announced to reportedly confirm the incredible decision.
Given that Ireland will be hosting the Women’s Rugby World Cup this year, a strong showing in the Six Nations is a must if they are to seriously consider challenging as hosts. A decision like this makes absolutely no sense.
Miller, Tyrrell and Naoupu are all contracted to the IRFU under the Sevens programme, hence the ability to pluck them for the championship side.
