The Irish Rugby Football Union have confirmed that Canada will face off against Ireland in the opening Test of their 2016 November Series.
This will be the eighth fixture between the two rugby nations and the last time these two sides met was in the opening game of Pool D at Rugby World Cup 2015 where over 68,000 fans created a memorable atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
The November 2016 clash will be the third time that Canada has visited Ireland having previously played at the old Lansdowne Road in 1997 and at Thomond Park in 2008.
IRFU CEO Philip Browne commented: “Canada’s performances at the recent Rugby World Cup illustrated the exciting and skilful brand of rugby that they are developing. We are delighted that we will have the opportunity to welcome Canada to the Aviva Stadium for the first time.”
Rugby Canada’s National Program Manager Gareth Rees said: “Canada is delighted to confirm the fixture with Ireland in November 2016. Canada showed it can compete with tier 1 nations at Rugby World Cup 2015. We look forward to the challenge Ireland poses on the field but also renewing the special relationship between Canada and Ireland.”
The Guinness Series will also include games at the Aviva Stadium against the World Champions New Zealand as well as the beaten finalists Australia.
