Ireland’s Jordi Murphy will be out of action for between six and nine months after damaging the ACL in his left knee, team manager Mick Kearney confirmed today.
The Leinster flanker suffered the injury during Saturday’s victory over New Zealand in Chicago, which resulted in the game being stopped for a lengthy period as he received pain medication before being stretchered off.
Murphy grabbed Ireland’s opening try in the famous win. He was replaced by Leinster teammate Josh van der Flier following the serious injury. There is some good news however as Kearney confirmed that Johnny Sexton, who was replaced in the second half, is not an injury concern.
Ireland have no other injury concerns as they prepare for a home clash with Canada on Saturday. The two met at last year’s Rugby World Cup during the pool stage with Ireland running out 50-7 winners.
