How do you replace a versatile Irish playmaker?
It’s simple really. Sign another versatile Irish playmaker.
Ian Madigan is set to depart Bordeaux Begles at the end of the season, after a disappointing spell. The former Leinster star only joined the French outfit at the start of the season on a two-year deal, but has asked for an early release.
Madigan is said to be unhappy with how things have gone with the Top 14 side, particularly his lack of playing time, with reports suggesting this morning that he has been in talks with several English Premiership clubs.
Neil Fissler from The Rugby Paper however, is now reporting that Madigan is on his way to Northampton. The Saints are looking to fill the void left by another Irishman in JJ Hanrahan, who is heading back to Munster at the end of the season.

Fissler’s track record when it comes to transfer news is second to none, and the move makes perfect sense. It looks like we may see Madigan lining out at Franklin’s Gardens next season.
