Despite his move to France, Ian Madigan was widely expected to be included in Joe Schmidt’s Ireland squad for the November series.
The former Leinster playmaker made the move to French side Bordeaux-Begles this season in a two-year deal reportedly worth in excess of €500,000 a year.
Madigan featured in Ireland’s summer series in South Africa and despite his move to France, was still expected to be very much an integral part of Joe Schmidt’s plans going forward.
It now seems whether Schmidt decides to pick him or not, he will in fact not be available for selection. The Irish playmaker has effectively ruled himself out of contention by declaring on a French radio station that he will instead focus on playing for his club in November.
“It’s important to play for my country but the most important is my club.
I think I’ll stay here in November even if it’s possible for the last match against Australia as Bordeaux don’t play”.
Is Madigan a big loss to Ireland?
