Bombs.
Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe is confident his head coach Rob Baxter will not be tempted by the England job should Eddie Jones fail at the Rugby World Cup and the RFU look to replace him.
And on that subject – Rowe says he had “no doubt” England will “bomb” at the World Cup as he reckons they are simply “not strong enough” to win it. Rowe says he cannot see England getting to the final and reckons Jones might get the axe as a result.
Speaking to Neale Harvey in The Rugby Paper, Rowe says he is confident Baxter won’t be “tempted”, but cannot say the same about England’s hopes in Japan.
“You say ‘if’ (Eddie) bombs, but I have no doubt he will,” Rowe said
“I don’t think we are strong enough. I can’t see us getting to the final so Eddie Jones may go, but I’m fairly confident that Rob (Baxter), even if he’s had that conversation, wouldn’t be tempted away.”
“Rob’s had ten years in charge and he’s been at Exter since I arrived 1993, so that’s 26 years of his life with this team and he’s the leader.’
“I don’t think he’ll jump ship halfway through.”
