Wales & the Ospreys are set to be without Lions star Dan Lydiate for an extended period.
The back-row injured his knee in Wales’ final game of the Autumn series against the Springboks and is now awaiting to see the full extent of the problem. Lydiate appeared to jar his knee in the encounter and was taken off on a stretcher at half-time.
He is due to discover the extent of the problem next week, but the Ospreys fear the ligament damage could sideline him for an important part of their season as well as for the opening rounds of the Six Nations with Wales.
It’s not great,” said Ospreys coach Steve Tandy.
“There’s definitely some ligament damage and it will be a bit more than a couple of months.”
“The worst thing is for Dan, it’s off the back of some bad luck with injuries and he was starting to come back into a bit of form,” said Tandy.
“Ultimately I’m just disappointed for the boy, whoever he was playing for, Wales or Ospreys.
“I’m just pretty gutted for Lyds.”
Lydiate is likely to miss the Ospreys’ Christmas Welsh derbies as well as the rest of their crucial European Challenge Cup group matches.
