Fiji made it clear this morning they will be a force to be reckoned with at the Rugby World Cup in Japan, with an absolute masterclass against the Maori All Blacks.
The Flying Fijians secured a 27-10 win, their first over the Maori All Blacks in 60 years, with some of the best rugby we’ve seen in a very long time. At times it was liking watching their Olympic Gold medallist sevens counterparts as they tore the Maori All Blacks apart with some scintillating rugby.
Fiji set the tone very early with, moving the ball freely with conviction, with their offload game proving too much for the Maoris. Speedy fullback Alifereti Veitokani shone on the day, scoring Fiji’s opening try.
Two tries from centre Waisea Nayacalevu, as well as a powerful effort from Edinburgh’s Vili Mata completed the try-scoring. The two sides will meet again next Saturday in Rotorua.
