Not long to go now.
Ireland open up their Six Nations account on Saturday against Scotland, with news yesterday breaking that Johnny Sexton and Peter O’Mahony are ruled out and Andrew Trimble is a doubt with a groin problem.
The news means Paddy Jackson is likely to start at ten, while Schmidt will stick to his now first choice back-row of Stander, O’Brien and Heaslip. O’Brien is back in full training and should be fit to start, while Keith Earls who is also back fit, may have to start on Saturday if Trimble doesn’t recover in time.
This is the team we reckon will start on Saturday.
1. Jack McGrath
2. Rory Best (C)
3. Tadhg Furlong
4. Devin Toner
5. Donnacha Ryan
6. CJ Stander
7. Sean O’Brien
8. Jamie Heaslip
9. Conor Murray
10. Paddy Jackson
11. Simon Zebo
12. Robbie Henshaw
13. Gary Ringrose
14. Andrew Trimble/Keith Earls
15. Rob Kearney
The bench is where it gets tricky but we imagine you’ll see Cian Healy, Iain Henderson, Josh Van der Flier and the Scannell brothers for definite.
